TV newsmakers of the week

This week, the television industry saw an array of exciting developments that left fans on their heels. From Kaun Banega Crorepati 16 getting the season’s first crorepati to the TV show Laughter Chef Extension getting cancelled, here’s a roundup of the TV newsmakers who made waves this week:
Actor Palak Sidhwani, known for portraying Sonu Bhide in the hit TV show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has issued an official statement accusing the show’s producers of exploitation. Her response follows a legal notice from the production team, claiming she violated the terms of her original contract.
In her statement to the media, Palak denied the allegations and alleged that all she did was file her resignation and ask for an amicable separation, and it didn’t go down well with the makers. In their legal notice, Neela Films accused Palak of making “unauthorized third-party endorsements and appearances without obtaining the necessary written consent as required by her contract”.
The Amitabh Bachchan-hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati has crowned its first crorepati of the season. In the episode aired on September 25, 22-year-old Chander Parkash from Jammu and Kashmir won the grand prize of Rs 1 crore. During the episode, Amitabh Bachchan asked a challenging Rs 1 crore question about geography: “The largest city in which country is not its capital but a port with an Arabic name meaning ‘abode of peace.’ Options: A) Somalia, B) Oman, C) Tanzania, D) Brunei.”
After using the ‘Double Dip’ lifeline, Chander answered Tanzania, which was the correct answer.
Actor Hina Khan is currently enjoying her time in Goa with her boyfriend Rocky Jaiswal and mother ahead of her birthday on October 2. The actor shared pictures from the retreat on Instagram.
Recently, Hina Khan also told her fans that she was suffering from mucositis, amid her treatment for stage 3 breast cancer. In a social media post, Hina revealed that mucositis is a side effect of chemotherapy and that it was causing her pain while eating.
Krystle D’Souza and Karan Tacker, who were once beloved for their on-screen chemistry in Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai, fueled numerous rumours about a romantic relationship. However, neither actor ever confirmed the speculations. In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan., Krystle finally addressed the rumours, revealing that she and Karan are no longer in touch.
When asked if they were in touch, Krystle revealed that they are no longer friends. “Unfortunately, life moves on and people go their separate ways. I don’t miss anything because that void gets filled somehow. But yes, I cherish the moments we shared,” she reflected.
TV actor Tanuj Virwani and his wife Tanya Jacob became parents to a baby girl on Tuesday, September 24. Tanuj and Tanya shared a joint post on social media to announce the exciting news. The couple announced pregnancy on July 11.
Tanuj and Tanya’s cute post read, “Our baby girl is here. Tanya and Tanuj. 24/09/2024.” The caption underneath the post read, “Today is the first day of the rest our lives (sic).”
Colors TV’s show Laughter Chefs was previously expected to get a three-month extension. However, sources have now confirmed to India Today Digital that the extension for the cooking-based comedy show has been cancelled. The season will wrap up with its final episode airing on October 4. Colors TV is already gearing up for the launch of Bigg Boss 18 soon. The promo featuring host Salman Khan was dropped recently, giving a hint at the season tapping into futuristic elements.
